Sandcraft PTL Lock Nut w/ Set Screw
The new PTL Lock Nut from Sandcraft might be the single most important nut on your PRO R. This nut sets the compression for the clutch pack between your driveline and your transmission. The OE PTL Lock Nut is set from the factory with a ‘punch’ at the set groove. We have seen a high rate of failure in this detent causing the nut to loosen, releasing the tension on the clutch pack and completely disengaging your 4WD. In some cases this failure is damaging the clutch pack as well.
Another common failure is when the PTL lock Nut loosens but doesn’t disengage completely. In this case, you will have slipping engagement in the front wheels only, but you won’t be aware of the problem until it’s too late.
The Sandcraft PTL Lock Nut upgrades this component to a beefy, 4142 pre heat treat stainless steel lock nut with a mechanical set screw to lock it into position and hold it there. The body features 3X set screw locations to simplify the critical torque spec. Torque this nut to 85-90 ft. lbs to align set screw. Professional installation recommended.
